Lamborghini success with two Miura S at Salon Privé and Hampton Court Palace Concours d’Élégance in the UK

Sant’Agata Bolognese/Oxford/Hampton Court (GB), 4 September 2018

Two Lamborghini Miura S, both restored by Lamborghini Polo Storico, have taken first place in their categories at two prestigious UK Concours d’Élégance: Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire and Hampton Court Palace in London.

Salon Privé – Miura S #4863, originally owned by Rod Stewart: 3 awards

Miura S 4863 at Salon Price 2018A Miura S originally owned by rock star Rod Stewart won Best in Class for 1970s Supercars at Salon Privé, as well as The Most Iconic Car special award and third place Best in Show, selected by a team of judges headed by Derek Bell MBE. The 14th edition of Salon Privé was chosen by the vehicle's current English owner for the first public outing of his 1971 Miura S (chassis number 4863) after its complete restoration by Lamborghini Polo Storico.

The winning Miura S still has its original engine and was restored at Polo Storico over a period spanning 18 months. It was a comprehensive and complex restoration, focusing primarily on the chassis and bodywork that had been damaged and altered when the vehicle was transformed into the subsequent Miura SV version.

The right hand-drive Miura S, first delivered in England at the end of October 1971, features Bianco Polo Park bodywork: a slightly more “ice” saltpeter-based shade compared to Lamborghini’s classic white. The car still has its original number plate, JLL 831K and the original color combination chosen by its first owner, British rock star Rod Stewart. The car was blue when it was handed over to Polo Storico and the bodywork had been coated with a 23mm thick layer of filler that concealed its beautiful lines.

Salon Privé, running from 30 August to 1 September and one of the world’s most prestigious concours events, was also chosen for the European debut of the Aventador SVJ. The new V12 Lamborghini super sports car, unveiled in August at Monterey Car Week in the USA, is the current track record holder for series vehicles on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in Germany, having completed a lap in just 6:44,97 minutes.

Hampton Court Palace – Miura S #4845: “The Best 70s Car”

Miura S 4845 at Hampton Court Palace 2018Immediately after the honors at Salon Privé, further success awaited another 1971 Miura S (chassis number 4845) restored by Polo Storico. It won The Best 1970s Car at Hampton Court Palace show in London held from 31 August to 2 September, with over 60 top classic cars on show and considered one of the most exclusive events in the world.

The only Miura shipped out to South East Asia by Lamborghini at the time, after it was finished and sent to its first owner in Singapore on 28 June 1971, it never came back to Europe. This right hand-drive Miura S in a pale green combination with blue interior has covered just under 1300 miles from new, and today is probably the Miura with the least mileage in the world.

It had not been out on the road since the end of the 1970s, and was purchased in 2009 by its current owner, a collector from Indonesia who asked Polo Storico to undertake the complete restoration at the end of 2016. From the very beginning of the show, the Miura S proved to be a magnet for the public, even attracting the attention of His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, patron of the event, who stopped to admire it for quite some time, asking about the restoration.
