Being on the ground and inside the fence at Lamborghini's 50th Anniversary Concorso in the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, Italy was an amazing experience, one I wasn't quite prepared for. The next closest thing I had the pleasure of attending was the Concorso Italiano in Monterey, California, USA only the atmosphere in Monterey is so much more relaxed in a golf course setting though still surrounded by millions of dollars in unbelievably beautiful, rare and exotic, super sports cars. The Piazza Maggiore, on the other hand, was an overwhelming sight all on its own. With architecture dating back some 800 years one couldn't help but look around and soak in the history and beauty of it all. But fill it with some 350 Lamborghinis and several thousand Lamborghini enthusiasts and you don't know quite where to look.
In the months leading up to the event there were rumours circulating of possible celebrities in attendance. And while the average person on the street might not know or recognize those who did turn up, there were plenty of Lamborghini celebrities on hand to satisfy, bringing smiles to faces and making cameras appear out of nowhere anxious to get a "selfy" next to the likes of Valentino Balboni, Stephan Winkelmann, Simon Kidston, Robert Ross, Harry Melcalfe, Luc Donkerwolke, Guiseppe Greco, Stefano Pasini, Fabio Lamborghini, Cristina Guizzardi or even (throat clearing) Glen Kohut.
And so it wasn't an easy task photographing all of the Lamborghinis present and writing down VIN and chassis numbers all while meeting in person many of the people who have been so much a part of this web site and who until now I've only known through emails and phone conversations. Hours of work spread out over several days in Italy did not end with the plane ride home. And now the arduous task of editing photos, cataloguing and identifying cars continues and we'll be bringing them all to you right here starting with a cool dozen Aventador Roadsters. Enjoy!
