When most people think of Lamborghinis think automatically think V12. That's probably because for the longest time the V12 models were the most abundant. But that just isn't true any more. In fact, V10 models have outnumbered V12 production in the last few years. But the V8s are actually the rarest of the breed with one some 1266 made. And of those, the model you see here, the Silhouette, was the King of the rare for decades with only 55 built in less than 3 years. The silhouette wasn't the furtherest developed of the V8s, that honour fell on the later Jalpa, but it was lighter and with similar horsepower it was more desirable. The removable roof panel also made the Silhouette the closest thing Lamborghini had to a convertible since the 350GTS show cars.
The particular car you see above is one of the first 2 prototypes built on a Urraco P300 chassis with Bertone Urraco body stamp numbers, and with the first car's whereabouts unknown, this car stands as the earliest surviving example of the model. Look for it in the Upcoming Auctions listing below as it will surely be changing hands a Mecum's upcoming Monterey auctions.
